What is placenta previa?
Placenta previa is a condition in which the placenta is implanted over or near the internal OS of the cervix, it occurs in approximately 1/200 of all deliveries.
Types
What are the three types of placenta previa?
Placenta previa is classified classified into three different types:
- Complete called total pervia
- Partial previa
- Incomplete called partial pervia
High Risk group includes: grand multiparous women, women who have had a cesarean section (or C-section), and women with large fibroids
Symptoms of placenta previa include: painless, bright red vaginal bleeding
Diagnosis is usually made by ultrasound
How to treat placenta previa naturally?
Orthodox treatment for placenta previa includes bed rest regimen; however, delivery at 34 weeks of pregnancy should be considered if bleeding continues (a preterm birth), as about 99 percent of babies born after this period can survive outside the womb.
Pregnant women are encouraged to take 400mcg folic acid supplement daily.
First goal include attempts to reduce the risk of exposure to potentially traumatic events, such as making changes to minimize the risk of falling during pregnancy, wearing of seat belts, abstaining from sex, controlling hypertension, and avoiding harmful products that can cause adverse health effects (alcohol, cigarettes, non prescribed medications, and drugs).
