Nutrition facts and Nutritional information of Almonds

The almond (Prunus dulcis, Amygdalus dulcis, Prunus amygdalus, Amygdalus communis, миндаль, اللوز) is an edible and widely cultivated seed of the almond tree native to Lebanon, Israel, Persia and South Asia.

Almonds are particularly high in vitamins, including various types of vitamin B and vitamin E, which is considered a perfect antioxidant and skin protector. Almonds are high in monounsaturated fats that promote cardiovascular health, and especially the phytosterols (plant chemicals similar to cholesterol), phytosterols are effective in fighting and lowering LDL (low-density lipoproteins, the basic component behind cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerosis) and cholesterol while promoting and increasing the levels of HDL (high density lipoproteins beneficial for health, a healthy lipoprotein). Additionally, almonds are high in magnesium (they contain twice the amount found for an example in spinach) and contain respectable amounts of calcium, a key factor in keeping and maintaining a healthy blood pressure and solid bones.

Recommendation

People with lactose intolerance are recommended to use almond milk instead of dairy milk, while people who are gluten intolerant can use almond flour in their baking instead of wheat flour.

Intake

Almonds fit in a wide variety of dishes. Eat a handful of almonds along with a whole grain toast and a piece of fruit for a balanced healthy breakfast.

Mix coarsely chopped almonds into your cereal, oatmeal, or trail mix.

Professional chefs use almonds to prepare almond butter cookies by substituting peanut butter with almond butter in the cookie recipe; this will result in cookies with a lighter nutty flavor, a perfect choice with tea.
