Orthodox treatment for Asthma

Ingredients

  1. A Handful of Malva sylvestris
  2. Half a nut of Opium poppy or one teaspoon of dried poppy seeds
  3. Two teaspoons of chopped fennel stalks, leaves and flowers or one teaspoon of Fennel seeds
  4. One tablespoon of Carob molasses
  5. Half a teaspoon of ground mastic (masticha) or a small amount of mastic (i used three crystals)
  6. One tablespoon of Olive oil

Preparation

Put a handful of Malva sylvestris (الخبيزة, خبازة برية), one teaspoon of Fennel seeds, and one teaspoon of dried poppy seeds (Papaver Somniferum) in a pan, pour two cups of water over the herb and seeds and bring to a boil, use a strainer and pour the solution into a teacup or mug, add one tablespoon of carob molasses, stir with a spoon and serve. (solution A)

Melt three crystals of mastic (mastikhān, Arabic gum, المستكة) in a tablespoon of olive oil. (ointment x)

Usage

Drink two cups of solution A a day, one cup in the morning on an empty stomach, preferably 15-30 minutes before breakfast, and one cup in the evening 30 minutes before going to bed, keep on this regimen for 15 days.

Apply an amount of ointment x to the chest and back (the clavicles) and cover it with a newspaper, then put a blanket over it and try to sleep for 1-2 hours, the ointment should be applied thinly to the affected areas of skin (chest and back) once or twice a day for 15 days to prevent and treat symptoms of asthma attack

Opium poppy (Papaver Somniferum, حشيشة الخشخاش) is a herbaceous frost-tolerant seasonal (annual, biennial, and perennial) plant (with showy flowers, milky sap and rounded seed capsules) in the genus Papaveraceae (the poppy family), it is native to temperate and cold regions of Eurasia and North America. Opium poppy contains alkaloids, morphine and codeine.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare , الشومر, الشمار, الشمرة) is an aromatic perennial herb with yellow- flowers and feathery leaves, a plant species in the carrot- parsley family native to Eurasia.

Carob molasses (دبس الخروب او دبس الخرنوب) is a paste prepared from carob, a brown floury powder extracted from the carob bean, used in eastern deserts (Lebanon, Greece, and Israel) as a substitute for chocolate.
